Pneumatic Crimper Upgrades

Problem

We use a pneumatic crimper for repetitive cable termination jobs - it is a widely available low cost unit which we purchased from eBay. We found the pneumatic foot pedal valve to be very low quality. It constantly leaked air causing the compressor to work overtime and waste energy. It was extremely noisy when the footswitch was pressed.

Diagnosis

We replaced the pneumatic foot switch with an electrical foot switch and fitted a solenoid operated pneumatic valve to the back of the crimper. This immediately fixed the air leak issue, but presented a new one - the exhaust air was deafening and the short pulses were so abrupt it was startling every single time. The exhaust port mufflers on the original foot pedal were pressed into the valve body and couldn't be swapped into the new valve, so we had to order appropriate exhaust mufflers.

Solution

The air leak issues were resolved, meaning we could continue to use the high pressure we needed.
Exhaust mufflers reduced the noise in use.
This unit is in regular use.
